Vintage Design
An important Regency oak and burr elm sofa table attributed to George Bullock. Having a moulded edge, burr elm top with outstanding colour. The frieze has two drawers and dummy drawers on the reverse side. Turned and fluted supports with fluted quadrant mouldings to the base, united by a central turned stretcher, the platforms having turned roundels to the ends. Raised on very good, large lion’s paw feet.
George Bullock is celebrated as one of the most innovative cabinet-makers active during the Regency period. It is his individualistic ability as a designer that distinguishes the furniture and interiors created in his workshop from the work of his contemporaries. George Bullock died 1818 although his date of birth is disputed.
